About Us

About ludoclassic.app

We publish a free, modern browser version of Ludo — the classic dice race board game — played against one to three computer opponents on any screen.

Our craft

One die. Four tokens. Home first.

Roll, choose, capture, and race to the centre. That loop is everything we design around.

What we make

A free Ludo that stays in the browser

ludoclassic.app is the site behind our version of Ludo. Each player owns four tokens that start in a corner yard. A 6 brings a token onto the 52-square track, tokens travel clockwise, land on a rival to send it home, and finish by exact count in a private home column. The first player with all four tokens home wins.

We are not an app-store publisher and there is nothing to download. The game is the website: it loads fast, works on phones and desktops, and has no account wall. Wins, streaks, captures, and best times live in local browser storage on your device.

This page speaks only for ludoclassic.app. The rules in our how-to-play guide and FAQ describe this exact build, including where it differs from house rules you may know.

Our story

From Indian courts to your browser tab

Ludo is one of the world's most widely played family games. We treat that history as a responsibility to keep the rules recognisable and the friction close to zero.

  1. 01

    From Pachisi

Ludo descends from Pachisi, a cross-and-circle race game played in India for many centuries and associated with royal courts, where players sometimes used cowrie shells instead of dice. The cross-shaped board, the four-player race, and the idea of capturing rivals all come from there.

  2. 02

    Ludo, 1896

In 1896 English inventor Alfred Collier patented a simplified version under the name Ludo, Latin for "I play". It swapped cowrie shells for a die and became a family staple across Britain, the Commonwealth, and beyond. Regional variants, such as Parcheesi in the United States, carry their own house rules.

  3. 03

    This build

ludoclassic.app is an independent, modern implementation of the classic ruleset. The rules are unchanged; what is new is a board that fits a phone screen, computer opponents that answer instantly, synthesized sound with a real mute, and no ads or sign-ups between you and the next roll.

What we stand for

Principles behind every roll

Instant to start

Open the page and press Play. No account wall, no download, no lobby — the bots are ready before you finish reading this sentence.

Honest rules

A 6 to start, extra rolls, captures, eight safe squares, and an exact roll to get home. The bots roll the same die as you, with no hidden advantage.

Yours to keep

Wins, streaks, captures, and best times live on your device. We do not hold your record behind a login, because there is no login.

Free, for real

The whole game is free. No coins, no energy meters, no video ads between turns, and nothing you have to buy to keep playing.

How we build

Designed for the browser you already have

The game runs entirely on the web with no plugins, no iframes, and no server-side game state. Analytics is limited to aggregate events described in our privacy policy.

  • A pure rules engine

Movement, captures, safe squares, and bot decisions live in a small framework-free module, separate from the interface. The board is drawn as scalable vector graphics, so it stays sharp on any screen.

  • Bots that play, not cheat

Each bot finishes a token when it can, captures when it can, steps out of danger, then brings tokens out or advances one. A little randomness keeps games varied. They never see the die before it is rolled.

  • Made for one hand

The Roll button sits right under the board, movable tokens pulse so you never hunt for legal moves, and when only one move exists the game plays it. Keyboard players get R, 1–4, N, and M.
